ISU Congress brings changes ahead of competitive season The 57th ISU Congress was held June

4–8 in Seville, Spain, where more than 350 delegates, including ISU office holders and delegations from ISU member federations, met at the Barcelo Renacimiento to debate and vote on more than 400 proposals. The most significant changes heading

into the 2018–19 competitive season are: • The short dance segment of ice dance competition will now be referred to as the Rhythm Dance. The rules and requirements for this segment will remain the same.

• The third stop on the 2018 ISU Grand Prix Series will be in Helsinki, Finland. Cup of Finland will be held November 2–4, and will replace Cup of China, traditionally held in Beijing.

• Junior and senior free skates for men’s and pairs have been shortened to be the same length as the junior and senior ladies free skates (3:30 and 4:00 respectively). Junior and senior men will have one less jump element, so they will have a maximum of seven, and junior and senior pairs will no longer do a solo spin combination in the free skate.

• Grades of Execution will increase the scoring range from 7 to 11 with the intro-

duction of a wider scale. GOEs will now be awarded on a scale from -5 to +5, up from the previous scale ranging from -3 to +3.

• Synchronized skating has added two new types of elements — artistic elements and twizzle elements. Complete information on the 2018 ISU

Congress can be reviewed at www.isu.org/ isu-congresses.
