FRED E. LANE (JD ’50) TAUGHT his last class at The Fred Lane Trial Technique Institute at age 92 aſter teaching there for over 50 years. His sons, Scott D. Lane (JD ’88) and Stephen I. Lane, will take over the program.


JEAN WAYTINE (BA ’51) SHARES the word with fellow alumni that she and her friends, Loretta J. Spisak (BS ’51) and Judith T. McNulty, BMV (BA ’51, MA ’60), are still with us.

DAN K. WEBB (JD ’70) AND HON. NATHANIEL R. HOWSE JR. (JD ’76) RECEIVED the John Paul Stevens Award, pre- sented annually to attorneys who best exem- plify the Justice Stevens’s commitment to in- tegrity and public service in the practice of law.


HON. THOMAS R. MULROY (JD ’72) INDUCTED as the 141st president of the Chicago Bar Association.


SHARON SMOGOR (BS ’73, MA ’74) RECEIVED the Heart of the School for Connec- tion from the Chicago Archdiocese.


HON. LORNA E. PROPES (JD ’75) RECEIVED a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Jury Verdict Reporter reception for her contri- butions to the legal community.


CURT N. RODIN (JD ’75) FUNDING the creation of a new center at Loyola School of Law, The Curt and Linda Rodin Cen- ter for Social Justice, which is expected to open in spring 2018 and focus on health care, educa- tion, and criminal justice for clients.


STEVEN M. LEVIN (JD ’76) CELEBRATING 25 years of practice with his firm, Levin & Perconti. In those years, the firm has recovered over $660 million in settlement awards for clients and their families. Levin was also installed as vice president of The Society of Trial Layers and featured on CNN’s Headline News addressing the death of six nursing home patients in Hollywood, Florida.

JEROME M. CONNOR (BS ’63) WRITING an 85,000-word manuscript, Secret Places/Unknown Spaces, for a major publisher. The book will bring readers into secret locales essential to the victory in World War II that still exist today.


JOAN BRESLIN LARSON (BA ’73) CO-AUTHORED Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology: A Comprehen- sive Guide to Assistive Technology Services (CAST Publishing).


JOE PAPROCKI (MPS ’81, IPS ’85) AWARDED second place in the Catholic Press Association 2017 Book Awards in the pastoral ministry category for his book, A Church on the Move: 52 Ways to Get Mission and Mercy in Motion (Loyola Press).


KAY METRES (MPS ’87) PUBLISHED Aſter the Fear Come the Giſts: Breast Cancer’s Nine Surpris- ing Blessings (ACTA), in which she shares the surprising discoveries she had over the course of her own treatment for breast cancer.


ROGER PROSISE (PhD ’88) PUBLISHED a memoir titled Housing Projects, Mansions, and Schools: An Educator’s Odyssey. In it, he details how a boy moved from living in the worst public housing project in the country to becoming the superintendent of a prestigious public school in one of the wealthiest communities in the United States.


THOMAS STRUNK (MA ’01, PhD ’05) PUBLISHED History aſter Liberty: Tacitus on Tyrants, Sycophants, and Republicans (University of Michigan Press). He is an associate profes- sor of Classics at Xavier University in Cincinnati.


KELSEY OSEID (BA ’11) PUBLISHED her first author-illustrated book, What We See in the Stars (Ten Speed Press). It is non-fiction book on history, astronomy, and the mythological connections of humans and the night sky.


SAMANTHA CHMELIK (MA ’13) WROTE Museum Operations: A Handbook of Tools, Templates, and Mod- els (Rowman and Littlefield), an instructional workbook containing research and analytical tools, templates, and models.
