ne of my favorite quotes has always been, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Yet some mes


remembering our history with the goal of repea ng it can actually be a good thing. As the na on’s 30,000 coopera ves celebrate Na onal Co-op Month this October, it is a great  me to take a look back – and a look forward.


Take the history of your electric co-op. Northeast Oklahoma Electric was founded when neighbors worked together to bring electricity to our rural community. Big investor-owned power companies thought they couldn’t generate enough profi t so they bypassed rural areas. Back then, there were frequent mee ngs among neighbors to discuss the forma on of the coopera ve. Once established, annual mee ngs were the “must a end” event of the year. The co-op – on behalf of the member-owners – commi ed to provide the community with electricity.


Fast forward to today – and tomorrow. Northeast Oklahoma Electric currently serves over 38,000 meters. We have returned $15,209,015 to our members since 1938.


We understand the spirit that helped create this co-op must be con nually nurtured. While  mes and technology will con nue to change, our commitment to you will not.


Although we started out to provide electricity, our impact (with your support) has grown. Take, for instance, our commitment to bringing high-speed internet to our area. Fiber-to-the-home through BOLT Fiber Op c Services is providing technology to posi vely impact businesses and residents.


As we con nue to look toward the future, you can be confi dent that Northeast Oklahoma Electric will commit to explore new ways to help our members and our community.


Over the years, as we’ve listened to you and your fellow co-op member-owners, we know that we have to keep pace as technology and consumer tastes evolve. As always, we welcome your par cipa on as we plan for the future. 

If you experience an outage: 1. Check your switch or circuit breaker in the house and on the meter pole to be sure the trouble is not on your side of the service.


2. When contacting the cooperative to report an outage, use the name as it appears on your bill, and have both your pole number and account


number ready.
