HELP WANTED Vice President of Business Development and Sales


The American Foundry Society (AFS) is seeking an individual to fill the position of the Vice President of Business Develop- ment and Sales who is the key executive responsible for developing and implement- ing strategies for optimizing revenue in the areas of a) membership dues, b) magazine ads, c) content marketing and webinars, d) AFS/Institute services, e) sponsorships, and related opportunities, as well as as- sisting in the generation of trade show exhibit income.


The Vice President is an articulate, mission-focused sales manager and relationship-marketing expert, with an ability to motivate a team, cultivate external relationships, and achieve ambitious rev- enue goals. Additional key responsibilities for this position are that they are able to organize the annual Supply Chain and Supplier Summits. Position oversees staff that nurtures relationships with chapters, stages the annual Leadership Summit/ Chapter Officers Conference and assists with other AFS events as assigned. Ensures the BD&S Division achieves goals to ser- vice all membership levels, assist chapters, and inform prospects and members on the benefits of membership/involvement. Provides continuous coordination with the magazine editorial/art staff to ensure proper placement of ads. Serves as a periodic AFS speaker at industry events.


The successful candidate will have a minimum of a degree in Business, Sales,


Marketing, Political Science, or a related discipline; a Master’s Degree is desirable. Must have 7-10 years of revenue genera- tion responsibility in a business or trade association setting, ideally in relationship marketing – selling intangible products and services. At least 3-5 years of that experience should be in supervisory/sales management capacities. A background in manufacturing, or an ability to learn quickly about the foundry industry, is desirable. Able to assess customer needs, think on feet, customize oral and written commu- nications, persuasively describe benefits, close sales, and ensure fulfillment of AFS obligations. Able to use Microsoft Office including Word and Excel, membership and magazine databases. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have ability to travel on a regular basis.
