As a USA Triathlon Foundation grant recipient, Tri-Masters Chicago uses funds to support the many unique opportunities the program offers youth athletes.

The program has provided youth the opportunity to participate in workshops with a five-time IRONMAN World Champion competitor and other world-class athletes, while also exposing the athletes to a community of business professionals who make fitness a major part of their lives.

The skills the athletes develop through the program help set them up for success throughout their lives. Many participants who successfully complete the program become employed at Tri-Masters. Lyles finds immense joy that their first paychecks come from his organization. The kids’ successes are also passed along to parents and other community members.

Many graduates of the program go on to compete on their school’s swimming and track teams and continue to be actively engaged with their community and school.

Lyles has left an indelible mark on the sport and community with over 25 years of service. At age 65, he now hopes to develop his own foundation, which will ensure the program will continue to change lives for years to come.

“I got myself into something I can’t get out of. We are a true non-profit organization, and we are doing great things. This is my way of contributing to the sport and helping some kids along the way.”

The mission of the USA Triathlon Foundation is to support and promote triathlon, and open pathways to triathlon to those whom it might not otherwise be possible. The Foundation focuses on three key areas (youth, paratriathletes, and Olympic hopefuls) to provide the opportunities for every child to participate, every paratriathlete to compete, and every young athlete to chase his or her Olympic dream.
